Transition period from GMPs to GHPs.

Publication of the new Good Hygiene Practices

FAO/WHO (Codex Alimentarius Commission – CAC) officially published the General Principles of Food Hygiene: Good Hygiene Practices (GHPs) on 5 November 2020. It will replace the current GMPs on 5 May 2022.

All companies certified to GMP are permitted an 18-month transition period. Therefore, as of 5 May 2022 GMP certificates will cease.

Please note that the transition to GHPs could take place during:

  • an initial audit (new)
  • a surveillance audit
  • a re-certification audit
  • or a special audit

We would advise you to make the necessary preparation to upgrade to GHPs as soon as possible or at the latest by the end of February 2022. This may coincide with your next surveillance or re-certification audit.
